AC Milan are not in negotiations over a deal for Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario but the player would be happy to make the move, a journalist has claimed.
There is the fear among the Milan staff that Maignan could actually miss the Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter next month given that he underwent a scan on his calf muscle today and must be re-evaluated next month.
Given that Ciprian Tatarusanu is out of contract at the end of the season and does not offer the same certainty that Maignan does, there has been speculation that the Rossoneri could move for a new back-up goalkeeper. Atalanta’s Marco Sportiello, Monza’s Alessio Cragno and Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario emerged as targets.
Carlo Pellegatti spoke on his YouTube channel about the links with Vicario, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“Right now, Vicario is a suggestion and there have been no contacts. There is no negotiation but he is a goalkeeper who is liked by Milan, who are making careful assessments of the goalkeeper,” he said.
“Vicario is a great goalkeeper and he would probably come to Milan immediately, but the club must evaluate whether to invest in a goalkeeper who should be the second. I believe that Milan will not be held back by the economic issue if they decide to go for a goalkeeper.
“The figure could range from 12 to 18 million euros. It’s no small thing, but Gerry Cardinale wants to do things right. If a sacrifice has to be made it must be done. Milan could have two great goalkeepers in the squad.”
