CorSport: Milan fear a lengthened absence for Maignan – Supercoppa vs. Inter at risk

By Oliver Fisher -

There are now worries that Mike Maignan may miss more than just the game against Salernitana on January 4 with the Supercoppa Italiana against Inter also at risk, a report claims.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Maignan will undergo scans to understand exactly where his calf muscle is at in terms of recovery, but the feelings are not at all positive. If the fears were confirmed, it would lengthen the absence of a player who has been missing since 18 September.

There are fears that Maignan will end up having a longer-than-expected stop which not only will likely put him out of action for the entire first part of January but could further extend recovery times even after.

The most important match at risk is undoubtedly the Italian Super Cup that Milan will play in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, on January 18 against Inter. Up for grabs is not only the first trophy of the season but also another huge derby, one that will probably carry weight that transfers over into the league.

The scan results should arrive in the next few hours, perhaps today, and finally we should know more about the situation. Maignan has been missing for too long and the squad are missing both his incredible goalkeeping ability but also his leadership from the rear.
