Pioli explains selection choices for Monza game: “I would have done more rotation if I could”

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has explained why he has decided to make a number of changes to the starting line-up for the game against Monza.

Pioli has opted for plenty of fresh legs as Sergino Dest and the recovered Simon Kjaer are in the defence, with a new double pivot of Ismael Bennacer – who has recovered from a fever – and Tommaso Pobega.

There are changes in attack too with Junior Messias making his first start since coming back from injury, with Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud being rested in favour of Ante Rebic on the left wing and Divock Origi up front.

Pioli spoke to DAZN before the game and was asked about the decision to make so many alterations, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On Monza: “We are facing an organised team with good qualities. We will need quality, rhythm and consistency.”

On Rebic and Origi: “They can give us more depth. Monza will be aggressive, they will have to move well.”

On the rotation: “I would have done more rotation if I could have done it. I have a strong group. We are ready to play a good match.”
