GdS: Four-man defence and Bennacer doubt – Pioli in search of certainties before Napoli game

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli seems to have less certainties than uncertainties at the moment, and they must be resolved before the triple meeting with Napoli next month.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pioli seems oriented to go ‘back to his origins’ with a four-man defence that would see Rafael Leao wide on the left, Brahim Diaz in the middle and the captain Davide Calabria in the starting line-up once again.

The full-back hasn’t played from the 1st minute of any match sunce the one against Inter on 5 February. In terms of the other doubts to resolve, Ismael Bennacer is in a battle with Rade Krunic for a place in the midfield pairing next to Tonali.

In defence, two of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Simon Kjaer will play with the first two currently favourites. Brahim Diaz is clearly ahead of Charles De Ketelaere in the playmaker hierarchy, while Olivier Giroud will take back his place after serving a suspension.

In addition to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who picked up a problem on international duty, the unavailable players remain Junior Messias and Pierre Kalulu, the latter having gotten injured with the French U21 national team. The centre-back will certainly miss the match against Napoli and is also in doubt for the Champions League.
