According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), head coach Stefano Pioli is likely to use the next three days to keep working on the 3-5-2 formation that we saw against Inter in Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina defeat.
Immediately after that game, Pioli declared that he would use the defence again in the coming matches and that is his plan. While the formation is the same, the players in it could well end up being different.
Fikayo Tomori is unlikely to be back and instead aims to return for Spurs in the Champions League (next Tuesday at San Siro), so Pioli should give a chance to Malick Thiaw who came on in the second half against Inter performed well against Lukaku.
The German defender should take the place of Matteo Gabbia and support Kjaer and Kalulu in the three-man defence. A permanent signing from Schalke 04 in the summer, Thiaw – like almost all newcomers – has found opportunities tough to come by so far even though when he has been called upon he has always given good signs.
