Pioli underlines Milan’s mercato is a matter of ‘names and not numbers’

Compared to their league rivals, AC Milan haven’t invested that much this summer and this has been questioned by some. However, Stefano Pioli has once again highlighted that the Rossoneri make targeted investments.

Since Elliott Management took over Milan, they have made very few big investments and that mentality was strengthened by the Piatek and Paqueta flops. After they paid €35m for De Ketelaere this summer, therefore, it was always going to be the current case.

Milan don’t have a huge remaining budget and this is something that was brought up during Stefano Pioli’s presser today, ahead of the clash against Bologna tomorrow. The manager made it clear that they make targeted investments.

“A defender or a midfielder? It is a matter of names and not numbers. If there is the possibility of bringing in players to improve the squad, the club is ready to do so,” he stated.

No matter how you put it, though, the fact is that the Rossoneri don’t have loads of money to spend in the final days of the mercato. However, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will do their best with what they have.
