Stefano Pioli has admitted that he knows AC Milan’s current project means they will not sign any huge names like Juventus have managed to.
Since Elliott Management took over in 2018, the Rossoneri have been much much centred around signing younger players and reducing the unnecessary economic outlays that had plagued previous ownerships, which has helped get the accounts in order.
Pioli gave a long interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he talked about a number of different topics including the upcoming season, the new signings and the two new arrivals he is hoping for, and also what the strength of his team is.
As part of the interview with the paper Pioli was asked if he was expecting a more substantial ‘Scudetto gift’ than the market Milan have had up until this point, perhaps a Vlahovic-like signing at worth in the region of €80m like Juve were able to pull off.
“De Ketelaere with his potential, in 2-3 years, can become a top player in Europe. Each club makes its own assessments: with a sustainable project we have shown that we can win,” he said.
“The club cannot and does not want to go beyond a certain level. I certainly never feared that the new ownership would come and sell the most important players: we were told at the outset that the philosophy would remain the same.”
