CM: Over 70 derbies and a point to prove – Pioli happy to rely on Giroud against Inter

The derby between AC Milan and Inter always provides tremendous theatre, full of plots and sub-plots surrounding most players, and Olivier Giroud is no exception.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Frenchman should play in place of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is expected to start from the bench in Saturday’s match at 6pm against Inter. Giroud has racked up 20 games, 6 goals and 2 assists since joining in the summer, proving that a 35-year-old back-up striker is capable of making a contribution.

It will be a first derby for Giroud, who attempted to encourage the whole team during an interview with Carlo Pellegatti for StarCasino Sport that was released yesterday.

“We will win the derby and we will fight to the end to win the title,” he said. It was a show of clear motivations and of personality from a player that knows all about lifting trophies and playing in the biggest games.

During his time at Arsenal and Chelsea, Giroud played 71 derbies. In his first for the Gunners, he scored goal and emerged the victory against Tottenham. Pioli relies on the Frenchman’s experience to beat Inter and relaunch himself in the league.
