Player Ratings: Chelsea 3-0 AC Milan – Dest disaster; few positives

It was a disappointing Champions League evening for AC Milan as they lost 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Several players struggled for the Rossoneri and down below are the player ratings.

Starting XI

Tatarusanu (5.5): You can’t really fault him on any of the goals, so let’s just make that clear from the start. However, he needs to be more available in play and the play with his feet must improve, hence the rating.

Dest (4.5): It’s becoming clear that he really isn’t up to the standard of Milan, and he will have to improve quickly otherwise the next few games will be painful for Milan. He just doesn’t add anything, while making many mistakes.

Kalulu (6): One of the best Milan players on the field today with a rating of 6 and that says a lot. He did make a slight mistake on the third goal, but other than that he actually saved the Rossoneri on a few occasions.

Tomori (5): He made a schoolboy error on the second goal and that was dire for Milan, who then were trying to get back into the game. Not something we’re used to seeing from him.

Ballo-Toure (5): He struggled on many occasions, including the third goal (handoff with Tomori didn’t work) and his attacking contribution was next to zero. That being said, not a total total disaster, but ultimately fatal.

Bennacer (5.5): He tried hard until he was subbed of by Pioli but under pressure he didn’t quite manage himself as well as you would have hoped. The vertical balls he’s so good at, for whatever reason, were missing.

Tonali (5.5): Just like with Bennacer, the progress of the game didn’t really allow them to reach their highest standards, that’s just a fact. The spirit wasn’t lacking, but the decisive balls were.

Krunic (5): He was a bit sloppy in possession this evening and made a huge mistake in the first half, sending the ball high over the bar from very close range. It could have changed the game for Milan.

De Ketelaere (5): Just like the Bosnian, he also had a very good chance (the shot before) and he simply didn’t do a good enough job with it. And he struggled to impose himself in the game as well.

Leao (6): He tried, tried, and then he tried a little more because his teammates didn’t really do much up front. Could he have done better? By his standards, probably, but also he did what he could do.

Giroud (5): Non-existent for most of the game and he didn’t do a good enough job with the pressing. Disappointing return to Stamford Bridge for him.

Substitutes

Gabbia (6): He did what you would expect him to do against a team that had switched off at that point. A few good challenges, nothing spectacular.

Rebic (5.5): He added energy to whatever attack was left but ultimately had a small impact on the game.

Pobega (N/A): We didn’t see enough of him.

Origi (N/A): We didn’t see enough of him.

Brahim (6): Very good display off the bench from the Spaniard who actually succeeded with many things.
