Sporting CP published their 2022-23 accounts this morning and it confirmed some of the previously reported figures regarding Rafael Leao and his compensation case.

As reported by Record (via MilanNews), the accounts of the Portuguese club show that the €19.6m that Lille paid to settle the fine imposed by the TAD (Administrative Sports Court) and confirmed by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) following the player’s contract termination in 2018 have been received.
Therefore, it can be confirmed that €19m of it was paid by Lille thus closing the issue on the player side, while Sporting CP have attached €533,000 to Leao.
The figure is not random but refers to the Italian law whereby which – excluding bonuses – a fifth of Leao’s salary went straight to the Portuguese club. The gross he received was €2.5m, and thus €533,000 is pretty much one-fifth.
On Leao’s side the issue has now been put to bed as the recent renewal shows, but Sporting continue to ask that Lille pay €45,292,516m, equal to Leao’s release clause when he terminated his contract five years ago.
