Reports: AC Milan could go back in for Man Utd midfielder

AC Milan could go back in for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in January, according to reports.

Back in August, ESPN claimed that Matic wanted crunch talks with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his future, something which alerted both Milan and rivals Inter regarding his potential availability.

English journalist Duncan Castles – as cited by The Sun – then claimed earlier this week that both Milan clubs made bids for Matic, but that he was essentially forced to stay put by the Red Devils.

The Serbia international moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea for £40million and despite a strong start under Jose Mourinho, he has since come under scrutiny for his performances.

Nonetheless, a report from The Sun (via MilanNews) claims that Milan could go back in for the 31-year-old in January, as could Inter.

Matic’s contract expires in 2020 but the club have the option to extend it for a further year – which it is unlikely they will do at this stage – meaning he could be available for free next summer.

Meanwhile a report on Fichajes – who cite Calciomercato.it – claim that the Rossoneri could take advantage of his contract situation to sign him on the cheap and add reinforcements to the midfield, given the doubts over the future of Lucas Biglia.
