Today’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanLive) talks about Cardinale’s plan to give Milan even more ambition and to try get closer to both the sporting and financial levels of the Premier League clubs, which excel in Europe because of their very high revenues from television and commercial rights.
RedBird’s first step has already begun: in recent months they have started to develop the commercial side of things with new sponsorships, brand enhancement and partnerships such as the one with the New York Yankees. These are necessary for Milan to establish themselves in strategically new markets but ones with huge potential.
Cardinale’s main target is to reach a turnover of €500m across commercial revenues, TV rights and improving partnerships. To these must be added the possible and future revenues from the new stadium, which in Milan’s plans should generate around the same figures as the top European clubs who have their own home.
Only then will Milan really be able to afford big expenses on the transfer market. First the revenues and the growth of the brand, then the approval of a luxury budget to be spent on new signings and the wage bill.
