Maurizio Sarri was disappointed with the performance of his Lazio against AC Milan but insisted that the Biancocelesti only lost because of two accelerations. One could argue they have bigger problems than that, though.
The first half between Milan and Lazio was a tight affair but in the final 45 minutes, the Rossoneri were clearly superior. Their high press at the start of the half paid off and exposed the Biancocelesti on more than one occasion, including the first goal.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Sarri shared his thoughts on the game amid Lazi’s tough start to the season. He insisted that the goals came from two accelerations, even if that was really just the case on the second goal.
“We had a strange first half where we created many situations with equal numbers and we didn’t even turn them into opportunities. We suffered in the first 15 minutes of the second half, then we did well between the two goals. We lost because of two accelerations. Milan’s press lasted 10 minutes, not 90”
On the first goal, Yacine Adli picked out Tijjani Reijnders in the space between midfield and defence. The Dutchman then found Rafael Leao on the flank and the winger didn’t need to accelerate much, squaring the ball to Christian Pulisic.
