AC Milan will conduct negotiations over the renewal of Rafael Leao from an important starting point which is the winger’s desire to stay, according to one journalist.

Milan face a battle to hang on to Leao after a season in which he was named the Serie A MVP and he managed to rack up double figures in goals and assists across all competitions, attracting the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs.
Leao’s contract expires in June 2024 so there is the necessity to find an agreement one way or another one what the future holds given that next summer he will be a year away from the expiry of his contract.
The well-known and well-linked journalist Luca Serafini spoke about the renewal of Leao’s contract during an interview with the club’s official channel Milan TV and he gave his insight on the situation, with his comments relayed by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it.
“I understand Leao’s desire to renew with Milan, but I am not aware of offers from other teams. The real crux of the matter is the tax with Sporting Lisbon. I am very sure that if Maldini loses his balance it is because all these pieces are in place,” he said.
“The renewal is not disproportionate to what others perceive, to the budget of others to come. The problem with Sporting must be addressed but the story of Leao’s renewal is completely different compared to Kessie or Donnarumma.”
