Seven questions Pioli must answer amid Milan’s dire record in 2023

Stefano Pioli and AC Milan have some questions to answer amid the very disappointing record in 2023. In fact, the Rossoneri have won just four out of 13 games and a top-four finish remains at risk.

Milan have done well in the Champions League (albeit knocking out a struggling Spurs side) and that success is important financially. However, in the league, things have not gone well in 2023 and a top-four finish is still at risk.

Missing out on top four would be an incredible failure sporting-wise, and it would be very damaging financially. And we are talking about a season in which Milan are the reigning champions, while Pioli highlighted the goal to win a trophy as recently as January.

As highlighted by the Twitter user @not_Furge, there are several questions that need to be answered by Pioli. In particular, there are seven questions that haven’t been asked by the journalists even though they are fully justified.

1. In 2023, you have a points-per-game record in line with relegation teams, how do you explain it?

2. Many negative records by a reigning champion. Is the root cause that the club didn’t give you a good enough squad?

3. What does the club think of your management of the new arrivals? Were you not involved in building the squad or were you simply wrong about them?

4. What do you think of the different media treatments for you and Inzaghi. How do you judge your season compared to his?

5. In your opinion what is there to save this season? Is there one particular aspect (technical, tactical, individual, mental, etc) that has had growth/progress? What should we start from next year?

6. Until a few weeks ago you said that the goal this season absolutely was to raise a trophy, so why are you now talking about a positive season in case of a top-four finish?

7. Do you feel confident that you will be on the Milan bench again next year, whatever happens? In light of this season, if you were a director, would you start again with confidence in Pioli? If so, why?
