SM: AC Milan to complete Piatek signing in next 24 hours

AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Krzysztof Piatek as the replacement for Gonzalo Higuain, reports claim.

SportMediaset state that the Poland international will be in Milano on Monday evening to undergo his medical before signing in what is believed to be a €35m deal.

The Piatek transfer is a result of Chelsea’s interest in Higuain, who reportedly has asked to leave the San Siro side in order to reunite with Sarri.

Genoa defender Domenico Criscito spoke to Sky Sport after the Grifone 2-0 defeat against the Rossoneri, seemingly confirming his team-mate’s departure.

“Piatek? It’s hard for us because he’s scored half of the total amount of goals we’ve scored this season,” he stated.

“He is a great player and we are going to miss him. I hope the club will manage to retain him, players like him are important, let’s see what happens.”

Genoa boss Cesare Prandelli also revealed after the game that the club has been somewhat forced to re-evaluate their stance on Piatek.

“When I arrived there were no plans to sell him, but then the club weighed things up.

“He was at the stadium today, but I have to think about training the lads I have available, trying to convey to them the right mentality for this club.”
