Florian Thauvin has certainly had a really interesting career in recent years, and it may have been slightly more ‘normal’ had he opted to join AC Milan.

Few players have hit numbers like Thauvin did in the late 2010s, as he scored 53 goals in three seasons in Ligue 1, whilst also providing 29 assists. A phenomenal output record, and it is clear why Milan were interested.
With an extensive interest in French talents in recent years, it is easy to see how Thauvin was a target for the club, and an effort was made in 2020. However, he made a move to Mexico instead.
A suggestion
A lot has been said about the move since, and today, the Frenchman – who is now back in France after a spell with Udinese – spoke to So Foot about the decision to move to Tigres, and the regret that remains with him, as MilanPress relays.
“In September 2020, I was close to joining AC Milan. The negotiations with Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara had started very well, but I had already reached an agreement with Tigres. I made a mistake, and in the end, AC Milan remained just a suggestion.”
His record in Mexico was far from the levels he was at in France. Perhaps if he had remained in Europe, they would have continued.
