CM: Theo Hernandez a protagonist in the derby – his battle with Dumfries and Calhanoglu

Theo Hernandez loves being the protagonist in any game, but his status as the pantomime villain of the last two derbies is something he seems to relish.

Calciomercato.com write how his marauding runs and his provocations mean that he was Inter’s ‘most nefarious nightmare’ helping the Rossoneri to cause havoc down the right flank of the Nerazzurri.

It is thanks to Theo’s incredible work rate and the distance he covers that Rafael Leao is able to play so freely, and the result – two phenomenal goals and an assist – is also thanks to the exploits of the French full-back.

Denzel Dumfries and Milan Skriniar very much struggled to contain Milan’s left side and the hostilities between the Frenchman and the Dutchman were rekindled early on after the clash in the last league game.

There was a possible second yellow card that could have been given after Dumfries went well but Chiffi deemed it right to keep the game at 11 v 11.

There was also a quarrel with Hakan Calhanoglu as the lack of handshake between the two was seen. The Turk did not shake Theo’s hand, and then there was a little slap on the back of his head from his former team-mate followed by some angry words.

Theo Hernandez clearly relishes the biggest occasions with his pugnacious and combative style and he wants many more derbies, as the renewal until 2026 proved.
