‘False and incorrect’ – Thiaw to Newcastle story denied by agent with Milan stay possible

The rumours circulating which claim that Malick Thiaw is close to joining Newcastle United have been denied by his agent, and he wants to stay at AC Milan.

A report from HITC in England earlier today claimed that Newcastle are close to agreeing a £35m deal – which is around €41m – for Thiaw after talks were held over the weekend. Meanwhile, Strahinja Pavlovic is set to join Milan from Red Bull Salzburg.

According to Patrick Berger of Sky Germany, the aforementioned report is in fact not true, and his agent Gordon Stipic confirmed this in a comment that he made to the journalist.

“The current reporting about my client Malick Thiaw in connection with a possible transfer to Newcastle United is false and incorrect. Therefore, I will not comment on any further rumours,” he said.

Berger adds that Newcastle are still ‘very interested’ in the German centre-back and have presented their project but no decision has been made yet and there is no agreement so far. Thiaw can also imagine the idea of staying at Milan because he is ‘very happy in Italy’.

Milan may well also be open to the idea of keeping Thiaw given that he is still young and has potential to grow, while the exit of Simon Kjaer means the squad is already one centre-back down.
