GdS: Three players could benefit as Pioli considers reverting to old system

Stefano Pioli enjoys the faith of the entire AC Milan leadership but he must work out some of the tactical dilemmas he is currently faced with.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes how upon returning from the international break, the Milan coach is likely to change his tactical approach once again, moving away from a three-man defence which has stifled the attack and now can’t keep goals out either.

The most likely scenario is a return to the 4-2-3-1 formation that brought the Scudetto, with Rafael Leao back on the left wing and captain Davide Calabria at right-back as he is certainly in much better condition than he was a few weeks ago.

Rade Krunic could also find a space in that line-up either in the double pivot or as the attacking midfielder to provide balance, just like how Franck Kessie did in that role last season.

Between now and the end of the season it will be essential to rely on the men who won the title in order to secure a place for the next Champions League, and also to give some hope of beating Napoli over two legs.
