Christian Pulisic will be sidelined for a short period, and AC Milan will have to do something they rarely have – do without the American. With the top eight of the Champions League in mind, Paulo Fonseca’s replacement must be right.

There have been fears for large parts of the season about the usage of Pulisic. Maurizio Pochettino feared that the attacker was being overused, whilst others feared that Milan had no alternative to the attacker.

All in all, a cycle that cannot be escaped, given both fears feed into the other. Now, that fear has become a reality, at a time where the Rossoneri need inspiration and above all, Pulisic.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, the Rossoneri are hoping for a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase, which would remove the need to play any additional play-off fixtures.

But they will be doing so without their ‘best player’ who has been vital on so many occasions, and Fonseca is searching for a replacement.

At present, there is a ballot open for the role – Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be an easy solution, with Samuel Chukwueze or Yunus Musah on the wing, but a return to the 4-4-2 could not be ruled out either.
