‘Clinging to them’ – Sky journalist names two Milan stars Fonseca is relying on

Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini has suggested that Paulo Fonseca plans to rely on Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic as he looks to build some momentum with Milan.

Both Reijnders and Pulisic arrived during the 2023 summer transfer window from AZ Alkmaar and Chelsea respectively and they had brilliant debut seasons with Milan. The former started nearly every game as did the latter, who also put up 25 goal contributions across all competitions.

During what has been a difficult start to the season with just two points on the board from three games, the Dutchman and the American retain the faith of Fonseca. The midfielder has nailed down a starting spot alongside Youssouf Fofana, with the winger preferred again over Samuel Chukwueze.

Baiocchini gave an update live on Sky this afternoon as the internationals have begun to return ahead of Saturday’s resumption of Serie A action, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Morata trained with the group, this is the best news for Milan on this day of training divided between morning and afternoon. Theo trained in the morning, for Leao a specific work in the afternoon,” he said.

“The fact that Morata trained with the group on Wednesday means that he will be there against Venezia at least on the bench and it means that he is getting back into shape in view of Liverpool and Inter.

“In a limping season, Pulisic and Reijnders were among those who made the best impression. During the international break they played and scored, they are two points of reference.

“Milan are clinging to them, Pulisic now seems like a veteran and can cover multiple positions. Reijnders is the beacon of the midfield, a midfield in difficulty due to the absence of Bennacer and the delay in Musah’s return from the national team.”

    1. Lol. But to be fair, he’s barely visible when the opponent has the ball. He needs to be much more effective there to become a truly potent mezzela. Of course, as an AM it’s a different story

  1. As far as Reijnders is concerned, let’s hope Fonseca watched the Netherlands games and will try to position Reijnders in the same manner.
I think it’s safe to assume that Fofana is going to start as well, now the question is who shall start with him ? is it going to be Loftus-Cheek, Vos or Musah (please not Musah).

    1. Most likely RLC but the bigger questions are what formation will Fonseca use and where does RLC start because if Fonseca plays 4231 instead of 433 and starts RLC at AM then I will be counting down the days until he is fired.

Clearly we a better suited for a 433 and Reinjders or Liberali is a better option to start at AM than RLC.

    2. Fonseca doesn’t watch tape. He is lazy and mediocre, and came to Milan totally unprepared, repeating ideas that have been tried before and didn’t work.
