Calhanoglu – as well as Gianluigi Donnarumma – is on an expiring contract and given his importance, Milan want to resolve his future as soon as possible. The negotiations, however, are very tough indeed and there is nothing to suggest that an agreement is imminent.
According to a report from Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), Calhanoglu would gladly remain at Milan and sign a new contract, but he would only do so at figures that he is happy with.
It is unsurprising therefore that the paper adds how the amount he would renew at is not the figure proposed by Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara.
Milan have offered Calhanoglu a new salary of €3.5m net per season (which would become €4m with bonuses), but his agent – Gordon Stipic – is asking for €6m net to renew.
Meanwhile, Turkish sources have told them that Juventus are becoming more and more interested in Calhanoglu, but their pursuit would exclusively depend on it being a free transfer.
