AC Milan and Inter should soon be able to fully and officially confirm their plans for a new stadium and begin to look at breaking ground, according to a report.
The two clubs want to construct new state-of-the-art home as was revealed late last year, with Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous the two competing firms trying to land the project.
Recent indications over the past few weeks and months have suggested that most of the sticking points in talks have been addressed, but things have gone quiet again recently.
According to Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), the clubs have reached an agreement with the Municipality of Milan (the Council) on a commercial building index of 0.51, but it will now be up to the Council to confirm this agreement.
To reach a conclusion of the political and bureaucratic process will take a few more months, the paper adds.
Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello spoke about the project: “Having a new stadium in a rapidly expanding city like Milan, which has become attractive in Europe, is an element that players will take into consideration.
“They will understand that we are one of the best clubs in the world. We want to return to the top of European football and a new stadium is a key element in generating more revenue, which can then be invested in new players.”
