Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) spoke about the draw between Milan and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico to put both teams on 57 points, a figure which Inter also equalled with their 3-1 victory against Lazio.
While waiting for the head-to-head match between Roma and Inter next weekend, Simone Inzaghi’s team boast a better goal difference than both the Rossoneri and the Giallorossi, therefore sitting in fourth.
Now Pioli knows that with his Milan he must start winning again in the month of May if he really wants to finish at least fourth at the end of the season and therefore at least qualify for the next edition of the Champions League.
The games against Cremonese (Wednesday 3 May) and Lazio (Saturday 6 May) will be huge, especially the game against the Biancocelesti which comes before the first leg against Inter. FOnce again, the destinies of the two Milanese clubs are hand-in-hand for the third consecutive season.
The last two seasons were spent battling for the Scudetto, bringing home one each, but now the 2023-24 Champions League is at stake. In the last month and a half, the Diavolo have only beaten Napoli twice (in the league and in the Champions League) and Lecce. In the other games, five draws and two defeats have come.
Against opponents who defend deeper and look to frustrate, Milan tend to struggle. In order to stay in the top European club competition, that must change.
