Right after the season ended, Modric’s departure appeared to be more or less a certainty, especially given the Rossoneri missed out on Champions League qualification. However, in the last couple of weeks, there has been a U-turn of sorts.
Modric now appears inclined to remain for one more season. He might not be able to wear the red and black shirt in the Champions League, but he can help Milan get back to the big competition as soon as possible.
Effects of Modric’s potential stay
According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), if Modric stays, then one of Jashari and Ricci could leave the club. The Belgian is considered a key player by Ruben Amorim, so his exit is more unlikely, but the Italian could really struggle to get playing time.
Amorim will evaluate all of the players in pre-season and then decide what to do, because Milan might end up with too many midfielders. It’s one of the departments that could see the most change this summer as Youssouf Fofana and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also set to leave.
