Tuttosport: Motta on Milan’s list but two strong competitors emerge

Thiago Motta remains one of the leading candidates to take over from Stefano Pioli at AC Milan but there are a couple of obstacles to overcome first, a report claims.

Milan are experiencing a season of ups and downs. They are currently 16 points behind their city rivals Inter in the title race yet they look to have a top four spot firmly in their hands, while they exited the Champions League at the group stage and the Coppa Italia in the quarter-finals.

The inconsistent results in addition to the injury crises and the failure to integrate certain new signings have left a big question mark hanging over Pioli’s future, something that owner Gerry Cardinale himself seemed to admit.

According to Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), Motta is a name that Milan have on their list of potential successors to Pioli, but Juventus are also thinking about him as a possible replacement for Max Allegri.

Not only that, but the former midfield seems to be in fashion abroad because enquiries have been made by PSG. A lot will depend on Luis Enrique’s progress in the Champions League, but it should not be forgotten that Motta is one of Sheikh Al Thani’s historic protégés.

He and Javier Pastore were his first transfer deals as owner of Paris and they could be reunited in the summer. In the meantime, Bologna offered him a contract renewal (his current deal expires on 30 June), but Motta has so far asked to postpone the issue until the end of the season.
