The impressive nature of the work of directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in assembling the AC Milan squad has been revealed by a study.

The analysis of the CIES Football Observatory (via MilanLive) have looked at the most expensive teams assembled in Europe by taking into consideration the players fielded by the clubs that are part of the five major European leagues: Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.
As was to be expected, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City leads the table, with an average of €605m spent on setting up their XI, with the most expensive line-up being €726m. PSG are second with an average of €510m spent.
Third step on the podium goes to Manchester United (€480m), with Liverpool (€409m), Chelsea (€393m) and Arsenal (€382m) following them.
In seventh place is Real Madrid with an average of €370m, ahead of Barcelona (€334m) and the first Italian club Juventus who are at an average of €300m but with the most expensive team fielded being €346m. The Bianconeri precede Bayern Munich (€294m) and Newcastle (€257m).
To find another Serie A club you have to go down to 14th place where Napoli stand at €228m, followed by Roma in 22nd at €167m, while in 26th Inter is Inter at €147m and then in 28th there is Milan.
The Rossoneri’s average is €143m: the most expensive formation was the one fielded against Bologna (€182m) and the least expensive – against Monza – was only €84m as the likes of Tonali, Leao, De Ketelaere and Maignan did not start.
