Calabria on Inter winning the scudetto against Milan: “It won’t happen”

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has said that Inter will not win the scudetto when they face the Rossoneri in the Derby della Madonnina in April.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Serie A (via Calciomercato.com), the right-back dismissed the idea of the Nerazzurri celebrating a title win in a stadium full of Milan fans.

The two teams are set to face one another in the derby at San Siro on April 22, with Milan being the home team. Whilst there are a handful of games to play before then, there is a chance that a win in that game will allow Inter to mathematically secure the Serie A title.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have been by far and away the best team in Serie A this season and currently boast a 14-point lead over Milan who sit in second place.

There is almost no doubt that they will win the title, but nobody associated with Milan wants it to happen during the derby, let alone when Milan are the home team.

Calabria was dismissive of this idea, saying: “It’s still too early to talk about Inter’s second star in the derby, there are games before, but we want to win them all, so it won’t happen.”

He was also asked about the quality of Rafael Leao and he explained that he can be a Ballon d’Or winner.

“If he becomes more aware of his talent he can become number one in the world, I think he’s a Ballon d’Or winner. On a physical level, with those physical characteristics, I don’t see many like him,” he said.

  1. It better not. If we lose Pioli must go but he can stay if we beat inter.

I also don’t recognize Inter titles as one was given to them that they didn’t earn on the pitch and the other was handed to them as Milan had an 8 point deduction and juventus were relegated and they bought juventus top players so there was no competition that 2nd year due to an unfair advantage.

They are the biggest losers and cheaters in the calciopoli scandal.

  2. oh, he should shut up already. games are NOT played on the page of newspapers, but on the field. Given our antecedents in previous games, i am not expecting much. Simone seems to know how to pick apart the “algorithm” that Pioli is using effortlessly. Our coach has not found the winning formula to match Inter for quite some time now. Going by previous results, we would have played well if the match ended in a draw. Thats how miserable we have been when playing inter in the last year.

    1. “oh, he should shut up already.”

You mean Calabria, the team captain? Wow. So, you’re actually suggesting the player who should inspire and lead the team should be like “I dunno, I can’t promise we’ll win. Let’s see how it goes”??? If the captain doesn’t believe in winning the who does? Why not even bother going to play the game at all if they wouldn’t believe in winning.

If you don’t feel like you’re going to win a match beforehand, you won’t win either.

  3. If you look at Inter’s run home; they should clinch the scudetto very soon. They’ve done most of the hard work already. With 9 games to go they have 3 tough games only. The other 6 are against teams in the relegation battle.
So unless they get a big drop in confidence after the UCL exit. The chances they could wrap it up around the time of the derby is high.
    They have:
    Empoli H, Udinese A, Cagliari H, Milan A, Torino H, Sassuolo A, Frosinone A, Lazio H, Verona A
    We have:
    Fiorentina A, Lecce H, Sassuolo A, Inter H, Juventus A, Genoa H, Cagliari H, Torino A, Salernitana H
    Plus our European commitments.

Better hope we don’t drop many points in the next 3 games.

    1. After the derby there are 5 games (15 points) available.
      Current gap is 14 points.
If both teams win their next 3 games; then Inter would still clinch the scudetto with a win in the derby as the gap would climb to 17 points.
Calabria has his work cut our to avoid egg on his face from these comments.
