CM: The background on Szoboszlai’s failed Milan move after Leao’s intriguing comment

By Oliver Fisher -

A comment on Dominik Szoboszlai’s recent Instagram post from none other than Rafael Leao stirred rumours of a potential market flashback.

Leao commented on the images posted by Szoboszlai on Instagram by putting ‘Come to Milan’ with Milan replaced by a red heart and a black heart. As Calciomercato.com report, while the reply might not be 100% serious in nature, it seems the Portuguese winger wants to play with the Hungarian and not be replaced by him.

On the other hand, Szoboszlai could already be at Milan if the negotiations with Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2021 had gone the way that the Rossoneri planned. Milan wanted to sign the playmaker, but his signing needed the departure of Hakan Calhanoglu.

Instead, the Turk stalled until the end of his contract and then moved to Inter on a free free, which allowed RB Leipzig to come in and pay €25m to keep Szoboszlai in the Red Bull orbit, signing a contract until June 2026. It is a failed deal that Leao, judging by his exuberance on Instagram, would like Milan to have another go at.

  1. Szoboszlai was more of a Boban idea and especially if Ragnick idea if he was hired.
Szoboszlai maybe moved to Leipzig in the summer of 2021 but his deal agreed at the beginning of season 2020/21, just like the situation with Benjamin Sesko.
In summer of 2020 Hakan was coming off his best season of his career. Competent director with some foresight would have cashed in on Hakan and invested in a younger player. But Maldini got neither, just like the Renato Sanches- Enzo situation.
And Hakan is blamed for stalling. If you have a sporting director with some backbone who will set a deadline, you won’t have players “stalling” the negotiations. Happened 4 times already and is happening again now with Leao, but people still put the blame on the players and their agent while the incompetent director as usual gets a pass because of what he did as a player which has nothing to do with his ability to be a director. You can’t make a tackle in the boardroom to convince a player to resign or come to Milan, or even make a sale, 😆 Maldini and sale.

    1. Poli, just wanted to write that I pretty much disagree with everything that you wrote as most of it is pure BS.

You’re the type of guy who thinks CNN is real news, aren’t ya. The kind that takes the short bus to school.

  2. Sure, you know everything about the situations you mentioned. From where?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  3. Calhanoglu’s departure had NO similarities with Renato Sanches’ or Enzo’s failed signings. That’s an “F”. Sit down.

    1. Well he is actually right because Renato Sanches was also stalling the negotiations with Maldini waiting on a higher offer from PSG, which he got, just like Calhanoglu from Inter.
Maldini is awful when it comes to negotiations and closing deals. Just because you are a fan of his ,doesn’t mean you need to stick your head in the sand and pretend it’s not true
