CM: Bayern Munich’s squad refresh could lead them to pursue Milan defender

By Euan Burns -

Bayern Munich could be undergoing a serious squad upheaval in the summer transfer window and it could lead to them trying to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Bavarian side hold an interest in Tomori and they could pursue that interest if they end up selling Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt in the summer.

He has been linked heavily with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain today and he would need to be replaced if either of those moves happened.

Tomori is under contract with Milan until 2027 and has shown no signs of wanting to leave the club. The assumption has always been that he might favour a return to the Premier League should a bid come in given he is English, but Bayern Munich is always an attractive proposition for any player.

Another defender that they are linked with is Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, as are Manchester United. It seems that centre-backs could prove to be the major currency in the summer transfer window.

Were Bayern to sign Bremer, it may let Milan off the hook when it comes to Tomori, as long as the likes of Man Utd and PSG don’t then turn their attention towards Tomori.

  1. Ok so they sold Tonali and will sell Tomori, Leao and posibly Theo too in the summer. Whats the point of this team then ? Just a feeder club ? Cant wait for this americans to leave. So far not even one american owner has shown itself like a good owner in football. Its all about the money for them, zero pashion, soulless.

    1. Eliot won a scudetto after saving the club. Did you start following Milan yesterday? Hell even De Laurentiis is 50% American given how much time he spends in the states and he serves as a director on the Italian American Foundation….

      1. Im sick of hearing about that scudeto being an excuse about everything. How does that excuse selling our best players? You dont make a top team by letting go your best players every year. You know who does that ? Feeder clubs thats who. Maybe you are the one who just started following Milan if you dont know the reputation of this club and where it belongs. Sometimes i dont know if some of you are even real fans cause you only pop up when you need to defend the ownership. Tell me which Milan fan would not want for Milan to be back with the likes of Real, Bayern etc. And you def dont get there by selling your best players.

          1. Exactly, they sold one good player and now are talking about selling a bunch more. Thats the problem. And looking at how they replaced Tonali im not looking forward to losing other top players.

          2. Yeah that’s the problem because they will sell more very good player like Mike, Theo, Tomori, Leao, Bennacer, and so on.

    2. Calm down dude. Liverpool has shown a lot of PASHION and competitiveness, and they’re owned by Americans. Chelsea has spent like 1bn since Boehly took over. Just because they’re not winning doesn’t mean they haven’t tried. Roma has spent a bunch too. Not sure what you want here.

You’re a fan of one of the top 25 clubs in the WORLD. We can boast of an insane history and great players (even today). You’re drowning in a tea cup. Speak with a fan of Sorrento, Patronato or Sporting Lagos and ask them how they feel about their clubs. I’m tired of the whining .001% complaining about how bad everything is.

      1. Why would i compere Milan with any of those clubs like Sorrento, Patronato, Lagos.. Milan is a top club that should be competing with the best of the best. What exactly has shown you that this ownership has the intention to do that ? Its obvious that selling your best players for profit doesn’t lead to that. Maybe you are satisfied with mediocre, I’m not, that’s the difference here.

    3. Chelsea’s owner has spent a lot of money and Liverpool’s ownership spends on the right players. You should ask yourself why hasn’t an Italian bought the team if you have your mind so set on where someone comes from.

      1. Chelsea aren’t doing good exactly and neither did United with their american owner, Liverpool did a bit better with this owner and their previous american owner was so bad that the fans were collecting money trying to buy back the club lol. In general american ownership has been a failure in football, so why shouldnt that be mentioned? Compare that now with Arab ownership.

      1. Same as it didnt happen with Tonali ? You literally are on a post that talks about selling Tomori and there are plenty of others talking about PSG intrest mainly in Leao and then Teo too. Did you see our team saying they are unsellable ? I see you use childish frases like stop crying so i get that thinking is not your strong side but this is so obvious. Everything is pointing out to this club being ready to sell.

    4. To play the accounting books in FFP you have to make sales. A Tomori sale would be a huge boost if it can be reinvested into the right players. I like Tomori and happy for him to stay but I accept we, like every club in world football, have to sell players to free up spending power. Otherwise you end up like Barcelona selling off every asset the club has just to stay afloat from year to year.

The key is to identify the right replacements well in advance and do the business quickly before pre season.

  2. So Bayern is interested in Milan’s and Juventus’ best defenders.
Watch the reaction of the media and the fan base depending on who sells.
If Juventus sell their best defender no one will say anything about that, but if Milan sell their best defender the media and a certain section of the Milan fan base will start talking about Milan being a selling club just like Atalanta, Ajax Borussia Dortmund.
Some Milan fans either only live in the Milan bubble and don’t know what is happening outside of Milan or they are stuck in the past where players were retiring at Milan.
That’s how football operates in this day and age. Every club sells, even the big ones like Real Madrid, but only Milan is labeled selling club because they sold 1 player in a decade (Tonali).

    1. Your way off on this. Bayern are a well run club, not owned by oil funds.
They understand how to build a team.
Milan owners need to be clear if they are looking for success or not, we will see this summer.

If our team is picked apart that is no good for fans or club.

What important 1st team player in their prime has Madrid sold?

      1. Varane, Casimiro, Hakimi, CR7 coming of a 3rd UCL title in a row and a Ballon d’or award.
CR7 was the current holder of the best player award when Real Madrid sold him in 2018, and he was only 33. 6 years later that guy is still better than 90% of the current players in the world.
In the past players like Ozil, Di Maria, Higuain.
Also, players like Theo and Odegaard who became one of the best in their position at other clubs.
That’s just of the top of my head.

          1. Real Madrid 10 biggest sales
            – Higuain in 2013 for 39 million, age 26
            – Varane in 2021 for 40 nil, age 28.
            – Robinho in 2008, 43 million, age 24.
            – Hakimi in 2020, 43 million, age 22.
            – Kovacic in 2019 for 45 mil, age 25.
            – Ozil in 2013 for 47 million, age 25.
            – Morata in 2017 for 66 million
            Age 25.
            – Casemiro in 2022 for 70 million, age 30. Best player at his position in the world.
            – Di Maria 2014 for 70 million, age 26. Coming of best player in the ucl final
            – Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 for 117 million, age 33, best player in the world at the time.
Yep all youngsters and past their prime, I proved his point, right?
BTW, Tomori is 26, and Tonali is 23.

          2. Mate, with the exception of Ronaldo, non of those players were starters or were former starters who lost their place, like Varane and Casimeiro for example. Real sold them when they could still cash in on them. And since i follow United i can tell you they regret buying them big time. Maybe they will sell Belingham and Vini in couple of years, but thats not the same as selling them now in their best. Cause thats what we are doing with selling the likes of Tomori, Leao or Teo.

          3. Yes indeed.

I am not going to waste my time explaining to him why each of those players was sold.

Shock horror, Modric and Kroos will be next!

How will they ever cope with just Bellingham, Valverde, Camavinga, Tchouamani etc

      2. SJF I think you fall under unaware of what happens outside of Milan camp. I remember pep talking about how it’s beneficial for a club to not keep players too long. Barca, RM, Bayern, Liverpool have no problem selling starters and giving opportunities to up and coming players.

        1. The logic you are trying to use here is insane.

Your essentially saying those clubs are the same as Milan and sell their best players each year. That is just completely untrue

Yes there comes a time for every player to move on but that is a very different conversation.

  3. They paid 60 mill for De Light, i mean should we really say no to 60m for Tomori if they come to the table with a similar offer?

Don’t forget how quick this chat was after tomori’s head when he had a dip in form.

      1. Not sure about the cheaper part, what with the tax changes. Even if a replacement earned less than Tomori in net terms, it’d probably be similar to the club in gross terms.

  4. I remember how angry we were when Milan sold Kaka. And then both Ibra and Thiago Silva. Maybe if some of this fans were exist that time, they would be happy to sell kaka, ibra, and thiago silva. And maybe they will cash in Maldini, Nesta or Seedorf as well due to their age.

    1. C’mon man .
Tomori or whoever else you think Milan is trying to sell can’t shine the shoes of the players you just mentioned.
Most of Kaka, Ibra, Thiago Silva, Maldini, Nesta and Seedorf can play at this Milan even at their current age.
Ibra just retired, Thiago Silva still plays for Chelsea and Seedorf and Kaka look like they are at their playing weight.
Those are all time greats you comparing with average players. Tomori can’t even get a call up for his NT but you are acting like Milan would be selling prime Maldini or prime Nesta.

      1. Come on man, I know you know better. Nobody here will ever come close to the great ac milan team if you don’t give them continuity to build chemistry. You know those American business plan, and dismantling a team every year and replace them with new promising player is not going to win anything (and some of them might not keep their promise). How long nesta, kaka, pirlo, gattuso, maldini, pippo, or even khaladze, jankulovski, oddo and serginho were playing together at Milan?

    1. ‘Only a true Milanese can stay’ when the club has one of the highest wage bills in Europe. It’s 2024 and the club isn’t being run as a political vehicle for Berlusconi’s ambitions any more, we need to sell some players to invest properly in new ones – it doesn’t mean they can’t become legends in their time here.

  5. With all Berlusconi political interest by “using” Milan, I still witnessed Milan won 3 scudetto, 3 times in UCL final and won 2, 1 coppa Italia, 3 supercoppa, and 1 Fifa world club. At least when I started watching Milan
