CM: Conte paradox continues – the truth about Milan, Napoli and Chelsea links

By Oliver Fisher -

Antonio Conte’s future seems to be no closer to being resolved despite the rumours linking him with various clubs in Italy and abroad.

As Calciomercato.com write, Conte is a winning coach, free from contractual constraints and with a ‘mad desire’ to get back to work. These are three conditions that should make him attractive, and yet he does not seem to be close to any club.

Despite the great push of the two fanbases, Milan and Napoli have different ideas and therefore do not seem to be in the running for him. Informal contacts with the Rossoneri stopped in the winter, while Aurelio De Laurentiis is evaluating other profiles like Stefano Pioli and Vincenzo Italiano.

Conte wants to return to coaching in Serie A but at the moment a future outside of Italy seems more likely. It is unlikely that he will want to accept the proposals that have arrived from Saudi Arabia, because Conte wants to coach in a top league.

In recent days there has been a lot of talk about a return to Chelsea, but it seems they will not be able to satisfy his demands for three or four top signings given their financial constraints.

Meanwhile, Conte’s salary demands appear to be around €9m net per season which is certainly a sizeable figure but within the reach of Italian clubs who, however, now seem to have different ideas.

  1. It’s not surprising. He’s a childish, narcissistic man who will always put himself and his ego above the club. He also has a poor track record in Europe and there’s a perception that his style of football is becoming outdated. Much like Mourinho.

    1. He is the one if you want to make proper foundation to develop a winning mentality team. Not the one for milan coz Milan transfer policy doesn’t siut his demand.

      1. What foundations and winning mentality did Conte create at Tottenham ?

Didn’t he get Tottenham to 8th place in his SECOND season?
Didn’t he spend 60 million in Jan 22 for Bentacur and Kulusevski and another 180 million for Richarlison, Romero, Bissouma, Udogie, Spence? That is a total of 240 million spent in 18 months.

Didn’t he lose 4-1 in his second season to Leicester city who ended the season in 18th place. That would be like Milan losing 4-1 to Sassuolo or Udinese or Empoli or Frosinone.

I swear, some people like to repeat things like parrots. Conte is not the saviour, he’s just a regular coach who likes to spend a lot of money and hog all the glory if his big signings deliver.

  2. Conte is on the same downward slope as Mourinho. These coaches can’t do anything without big signing.

It amazes me what Xabi Alonso can do with the players he has at his disposal at Bayer Leverkusen but someone like Conte or Mourinho needs big signings to succeed.

financially Serie A teams can’t spend like teams in the EPL, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. So Milan must take a different approach to get back to the top.

However, that doesn’t mean signing players who are not at the level of a top club. We are no longer in a position to wait for players to grow unless we have experience players ahead of them to get the job done.

With that said we also need a coach who is good with young players who are hungry for success. We need a coach similar to Xabi Alonso, Arteta and Simone Inzaghi.

The only coaches we are link with that fits that bill is Sergio Conceicao, Thiago Motta and Paulo Fonseca.

In my opinion Conceicao has more proven success and he would be the best fit for the job more than any of these coaches including lopetegui.

  3. Don’t know what Ibra was thinking to have pushed for Antonio Conte. Thanks to whoever slows the move. Maybe Ibra thinks I’m a winner and Conte is also a winner that’s a win win. But compatibility bro. The characters are not a very good match. Already egos clashing at Milanello and you want to add a mad man into the mix?. Also Milan have a certain class to maintain. We only win with style.

  4. Pay top price for a coach if you want to win. Conte is Great! I remember how he turned a mediocre Juve, chelsea, inter to winning team, even tottenham to 4th place in first season. second season some close friends deaths and his operation affected him.

No more hire cheap coach.. you will only get no trophies for years and medicore all the way. There is always a price to pay to win.
