Furlani discusses Milan’s January plans and the Super League relaunch

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has admitted that the club could be active during the January transfer window, while also giving his thoughts on the European Super League project.

Milan followed up their Champions League victory over Newcastle United last midweek with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Monza at San Siro in Sunday’s early kick-off, closing the gap to Juventus in the process.

Tonight the mission is to win a third game in a row and put more pressure on a Salernitana side who are bottom of the table but are coached by Pippo Inzaghi, someone that the returning director Zlatan Ibrahimovic knows well.

Furlani spoke during an interview with DAZN not long before kick-off in tonight’s game against Salernitana, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated below.

Your thoughts on the Super League?

“President Scaroni has already spoken about this and I refer to his words. A lot has happened, we all need to understand, study and analyze a little. A lot has been said, I don’t know how many have studied well and in any case for us the priority is to focus on Italian football and on the problems that Italian football has, how to make Italian football better and competitive at a European level.”

What do you think of Cardinale’s statements, who said he was disappointed with the results in the Champions League. What are the goals you have in mind?

“First of all Gerry wanted to wish me a Christmas greeting, then in my opinion he didn’t say he was not happy but he is someone who isn’t content because he is a winner, because Milan obviously wants to win.

“In terms of objectives, we are still in the running for three trophies, the Coppa Italia, the Europa League and Serie A. We would have liked to still be in the Champions League and we would have liked to have a few more points in the championship, but we are there and we will try to the end . It is our duty, for us and for our fans.”

What will the January mercato bring?

“First of all we have a strong team in our opinion. Obviously we have been affected by this injury problem but it has given young players the opportunity to demonstrate their value. As you have seen this summer we are not shy or inactive in the market. If there are opportunities in January we will seize them. First of all, we have faith in our players and the team.”

And Zlatan is back…

“ Zlatan is a special person who has a lot to say and can do a lot. He has already done a lot for Milan and will do even more. I’m lucky to have him with me, Milan is lucky and all the Milan fans are lucky. I am very happy.”

  1. “We have a strong team” = We will not sign anyone who’s worth anything. Meanwhile the injuries and Pioli’s genius will slowly take us out of the top 4, just like last year! What is the definition of insanity again….
