Report: Gattuso said no to signing Ibrahimovic for Napoli before striker’s Milan return

By Euan Burns -

Former Napoli coach and AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso said no to signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Azzurri when the Swede was at LA Galaxy, a report claims.

As has been reported by Canale 21 (via Calciomercato.com), Napoli had seemed very keen to sign Ibrahimovic when he was playing in MLS and Carlo Ancelotti, coach at the time, was interested in the idea.

Ancelotti was then dismissed due to poor form and Gattuso arrived as the Napoli coach. It is reported that it was he who said no to the potential deal as he did not want Ibrahimovic at the club. He felt he wasn’t the right type of player to turn the Azzurri season around.

That left the door wide open for his return to AC Milan instead and now he is still on the books of the Rossoneri.

He is hoping to be back in action in January.

  1. Just about sums him up. How they let this guy coach Milan to mediocrity for three straight seasons or whatever it was is a mystery.
