GdS: Milan will not make a decision on Pioli until May – the Europa League is vital

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli’s future continues to be the subject of speculation, but the management have no plans to make an immediate decision according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), it is known that the fate of every coach depends on the results and this is even more true for Pioli, who aims to begin his sixth season in charge of Milan in July.

It would be his fifth season from the start, given that he arrived during the 2019-20 season in place of the sacked Marco Giampaolo, but in order to keep his job he must secure a place in the next Champions League and go far in the Europa League.

If Pioli were to win the only international trophy missing from the showcase at Casa Milan then his chances of remaining in his place would skyrocket even further.

Therefore a decision on Pioli’s future will be made by Milan only at the end of the season, not before, despite Gerry Cardinale’s latest statements testifying to a bit of dissatisfaction among the AC Milan owners: “Ibra and I are not satisfied with the fact that we are not number one currently in Serie A.”

Pioli himself did not want to comment on these statements: “I have never commented on the owner’s words: as such, the owners have the right and duty to make their own assessments.”

However, his side gave a response given the victory at the Olimpico against Lazio. It was difficult victory which however confirmed once again that the team are at the side of their coach.

In the management, as is normal and right, some reflections are made, even if the conclusions will only be drawn in three months when it will be known whether Milan will have one more trophy in their cabinet.
