GdS: Napoli get closer to signing long-term Milan target

By Euan Burns -

Napoli are getting closer to signing Lille striker Jonathan David despite AC Milan’s persistent interest in the Canadian striker in recent seasons.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have identified David as the replacement for Victor Osimhen who could leave the club during the summer transfer window.

Having looked at a number of targets, the Azzurri have started serious talks with Lille and the player’s entourage and are ready to make the move work.

Lille are actually requesting €50m for David but so far, Napoli have been unwilling to go above €35m along with bonuses linked to results. He is out of contract in 2025 so Lille will not be able to drive a very hard bargain.

He is said to be very keen on Napoli, having been sold on the project. They are also willing to pay him €3m per season on a five-year deal, but they are yet to discuss a release clause and the image rights which often cause complications in modern transfers.

David has been on Milan’s list of strikers for a very long time and is viewed as the more economically feasible option, as opposed to players like Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres.

  1. Imagine enemy teams keep on stealing your transfer targets nice management buy another 20m player or free one and hoping just get the next ticket for next cl without progressing at all and blame the others as always

  2. As someone who watches the French league, I can attest that he’s decent but has been struggling with high-pressure moments. I honestly can’t see him become a star striker. He’s good but not THAT good.

He’s a decent replacement for Osimhen. If I were him I’d pick Napoli over Milan because it’s way too much of a jump for us.

        1. Last year is the one he has scored so many penalties by luck check this year how many goals he has scored and how many penalties

      1. for him to score 25 goals in italy Napoli would need to be in scudeto winning form again. overall only one player in italy is capable of scoring 25 goals and that is Martinez..

        so you’re full of s*it

If you look at Osi who is much better player. Season 1- 10 goals. Season 2 – 14 goals. Season 3 – 26 goals- Season 4 – 13 goals so far..

So by what logic will David score 25 goals from get go?

        Martinez. S1 – 6. S2 – 14. S3- 17. S4 – 21. S5 – 21. S6 – 23 so far..

But wonder striker David will go straight for 25, right?

        Id*ot

    1. Meh. Cashing out on Osi isn’t exactly rocket science. And before that they gave 40M for Gonz. But if you looked at all the ST they bought and they flopped. It also comes down to a nice little sum. Milik 4 example. 32M.

  3. Napoli always manage to bring in much better strikers than we manage to have. They manage to make better choices every time and it is true that they are able to put money on the table. A serious club with a vision.

  4. Fine by me. I always hoped Milan would go for someone else because David is not AC Milan quality. he is good but not great

  5. Napoli sells their players for a lit of money so they can then turn around and properly replace them. Milan up until last summer was gifting its best players for free

  6. Thats if they success sell osimhen more than 100m euro. Dont forget they buy osimhen almost 80m euro from lille. JD are poacher type striker similar to jovic but play with speed

    1. The likes of Hojlund was sold for 70ish mil. It’s easy to see the likes of Osimhein reaches 90-100 mil figures.
