GdS: ’The worst image’ – how Cardinale experienced Milan’s loss to Inter

By Ben Dixon -

A sixth consecutive loss in the Derby della Madonnina delivered Inter their second star at San Siro. For AC Milan fans, few sentences could be worse than that, and today, a report has offered some insight into how Gerry Cardinale experienced Monday’s game.

On so many levels, Milan were sub-par against an Inter side that did not have to exit first gear, and for several reasons, that is bitterly disappointing, especially when considering the magnitude of the game and the recent results that the Rossoneri have fallen to.

It’s the second consecutive loss that Cardinale has seen at San Siro, after being a spectator to AS Roma’s 1-0 victory in the Europa League and taking into account the context provided by the rest of the season, the loss in the Derby, in that manner, will mean that action is taken.

As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, the Diavolo’s owner was cold in the stadium after the defeat, after another objective failed to be completed by his side. Therefore, after Milan’s surrender to their biggest rival, intervention will be needed, starting with the expected change in head coach.

This summer was already expected to be pivotal for the Rossoneri, but after recent displays which the report calls ‘the worst images’, there is a desire to improve immediately, and drastic action may be taken.

  1. The coach is the scapegoat. To all those saying that Pioli has agreed to all the players, when asked during an interview what he expected from the winter transfer window, he said ‘A defender and a midfielder’. Instead we got Gabbia back from loan and Pellegrino. Who wants to understand will understand.

I hear many coach names. Have a feeling that the new coach will also be a scapegoat, and that Cardinale is becoming the new De Laurentis.

    1. Gabbia has been quite excellent guy. The real mistake was getting Pellegrino over Calafiori for the same price. But you know that growth decree was a he’ll of a thing.. they just love saving pennies on salaries for an inferior player.

But yes I agree Pioli was always their built in scapegoat. This management is terrible. Out asap.

    2. He asked that because of injury storm but with the injury storm had passed, we still crashed out of Europa League and lost another derby, no more excuse.

      1. We sold Krunic who didn’t want to play after management low-balled him and bought Terraciano who could play RB and DM and who gave a penalty and lost us 2 points in his first 10 min. Not even Primavera players did that.
Who was Krunic replacement in midfield …was it Bennacer who still hasn’t found his feet in April?
        Let’s be real

Pioli has his problems but I don’t like that he was left alone to fend all the vulture ‘journalists’ even for problems that weren’t his doing. A team is a team till the end of the season and our management were only looking after their hide.

    3. Pretty sure Pioli wanted 433 at the start of the season and so the club got 3 mezzalas for him. What happened to 433 after that? We need to ask Pioli. And during the summer interviews, he himself said he is actively involved in the transfers with the club.

As for his winter transfer requests, it is quite understandable that they were rejected. Why? Cos the club is doubting his position next season after the following observations.

      1) Injuries. The club launch an inquiry. But Pioli refused to hold his coaches responsible. End of story.
      2) Pioli has the tendency to bleed in new players slowly and deemed them not ready … (look at Terracciano). So by the time these new ‘winter’ players are ready according to him, the injured players are probably back.
      3) We have credible Primavera players who can provide depths in the mean time for the first team. But Pioli will only really use them when there is no other choice. (E.g. Simic only got to play becos Pobega, who is a make-shift CB, got injured during the match.)
      4) Pioli would rather play tired players out of position than alternate using in-form players in their natural positions when fit. For instance, Theo or Pobega as faux CB when we can try Simic or Bartesaghi, Musah playing RW in place of Chuk and Pulisic instead of Okafor at LW.

Ok, I admit above are purely my observations. May not be the club’s POV. But I will be skeptical if the club did not even consider any one of the above during this time. Eventually, the team did well to tide over the injury crisis from Jan to Mar without any heavy winter spendings. However, things start to fall apart when the team is back to full strength now.

    4. Scapegoat? A coach with zero tactical awareness and ideas is far from scapegoat. He is the one responsible for the lack of any tactics. He also failed to motivate the players to perform at their level against Roma & Inter. No excuses. Excuses are for losers.

  2. What scapegoat?! When he really have the best team in italian serie A as player.. Inzaghi win with trash of other team.. Pioli lose with at least 7-8 of the best 5players in UE in their role. Who REALLY UNDESTAND football understand that Pioli is really bad coach! Furthermore who saw this 5years matches really want fired this ridicolous man outside Milan

  3. Cardinale’s attitude is “hey look at me I own an “Italian soccer club”, his goal is to get a fan base in the U.S., gfy, we are true Rossoneri fans for life. It takes talent to win whether you are in Serie A or in primary school, and a manager who makes the most of the talent. We are playing in the Derby against are arch rivals and we are “experimenting” , give me a break. Pioli is a nice guy, Leao is a star yet when he gets tackled he mopes around and Pioli is afraid to bench him…… and I was no fan of Brahim Diaz yet he goes to RM and he is way better. That is coaching and leadership . FORZA MILAN

  4. How can we get rid of this guy who is poison for the club since the first day he took over. Bringing insecurity ever since the late night drama with Maldini’s renewal. He will end up drawning in his own s*it.
