Gertten: “If Milan had made the right offer, Ibra would have returned”

By Oliver Fisher -

It would have been the dream return; Zlatan Ibrahimovic had his heart set on re-joining Milan in the summer and would have preferred to head back to Italy rather than join Manchester United.

These are the words of Magnus Gertten and Fredrik Gertten, the directors of a new docu-film on the Swedish striker.

“Ibra loves Italy and if Milan had made the right offer he would have jumped at the chance to return. His family also love the country, and when he was at Ajax his ambition was to always play in Serie A because he considered it the right environment for his style of play.”

The 35-year-old headed to Old Trafford on a free-transfer in the summer at the request of Jose Mourinho. Milan’s financial future was uncertain at that time and it was impossible to plan for any new signings. After a barren spell in front of goal, Ibrahimovic scored a brace last time out against Swansea City.
