“I’m staying” – Milan dealt another blow in search for new head coach by Amorim

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s list of candidates to become the head coach just become one name shorter as Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he will stay at Sporting CP.

A number of different sources have linked Milan with a potential swoop for Amorim given how impressive his work in Portugal has been. Pietro Mazzara reported this morning for MilanNews that he remains one of the names on the list.

Sporting CP became Portuguese champions for the 20th time last night, a very impressive achievement for Amorim who in his four years with the Lisbon club has won the title twice.

Calciomercato.com confirm that the performances of the Portuguese side had attracted the attention of several clubs including Milan, who had him down as a possible option to replace Stefano Pioli from next season.

However, after links with Liverpool and West Ham among other clubs, Amorim has now confirmed that he does not plan to leave Sporting any time soon.

“I’m staying at Sporting Lisbon. I’m under contract and it’s a special moment for me and for the club. Now we’ll try to win the third title together. We’ll try to make our dream come true,” he said.

It must also be said that Milan are strongest linked with Sergio Conceicao of Porto at the moment, one of Sporting’s big rivals and a team they beat to the title.

  1. What blow? He asked for so much money even Liverpool had to reconsider. Milan wasn’t even a blip on his radar. Seriously, some of these articles are work of pure fiction.
