MN: Gabbia due back in Italy today – the first game he should be available for

By Oliver Fisher -

Matteo Gabbia will be the first reinforcement of the January transfer window and he is due in Italy today before sealing his early return to AC Milan, a report claims.

Gabbia was sent out to Villarreal on a season-long loan but the centre-back crisis that Milan are currently enduring set the wheels in motion for the Italian to be brought back six months earlier than originally planned.

According to what is being reported by MilanNews, Gabbia will arrive in Italy in the early evening and will then be available to Stefano Pioli immediately after having undergone the medical examinations and the entire bureaucratic process tomorrow.

That means that he will not be available for the Cagliari game in the Coppa Italia tonight but he should be an option for the match against Empoli in Serie A on Sunday. Once Gabbia’s return has been shelved, the Rossoneri will have to buy another defender too because of the number of absences.

As a reminder, the winter transfer window begins today will last until 20:00 CET on 1 February 2024. There will therefore be a month available to clubs to intervene to improve their respective squads and fill any gaps created during the first part of the season.
