AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo will be out for around six months with an injury sustained during Italy’s World Cup qualifier against Spain.
Montolivo left the field in serious discomfort on a stretcher, and medical examinations have revealed that he has suffered a lesion in the Anterior Cruciate Ligament of his left knee.
The club gave the following statement:
AC Milan announces that, during last night’s match with the Italian National team, Riccardo Montolivo suffered an injury to his left knee anterior cruciate ligament.
Due to the extent of the injury, the player needs to undergo surgery.
This is the worst injury to occur to the former Fiorentina captain since he fractured his tibia towards the end of the 2013/2014 season, effectively reducing him to a mere sub for the following campaign too.
Montolivo left the Italy training camp earlier on today to be replaced by Marco Baselli.
