Pulisic admits to being ‘very emotional’ after scoring goal on Milan debut

By Oliver Fisher -

Christian Pulisic has revealed his emotions after marking his debut for AC Milan in Serie A with a sensational goal after less than 21 minutes.

Pulisic was named in the starting line-up on the right wing by Stefano Pioli as a gesture of faith from the head coach after an exceptional preseason campaign in which he often looked like the main creative forced.

The USA international didn’t let him down either. He had a hand on the first goal with a deep cross to Tijjani Reijnders that then saw him set up Olivier Giroud, then he opened his account in Italy after a one-two with Giroud and a screamer from 20 yards out.

Pulisic spoke to Milan TV after the match to reflect on his performance including the stunning goal as well as that of the team and an important result.

“Very emotional. I’m very excited to get my first goal in my debut at the club. I just remember driving at the back four and seeing Oli [Giroud] playing a nice one-two and the only option was to shoot,” he said.

“It was a perfect finish in the back post, from there I was very excited and it was nice to celebrate with my team-mates.

“A clean sheet is really important for us. The two early goals helped us definitely, it was not an easy game for us, we made a lot of good defensive plays as well. It’s nice to get a clean sheet and win our first game.

“I’m enjoying my time with the team a lot, it’s a great group of guys, the city has been fantastic so far, the support from the fans has been great. I’m really excited to play at San Siro next week.”
