Romano: Milan’s interest ‘concrete’ with Man Utd in limbo – the latest on Zirkzee

By Oliver Fisher -

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that AC Milan are very keen on landing Bologna sensation Joshua Zirkzee in the summer, while Manchester United are in a phase of waiting.

Milan are looking for a striker for the future, above all because of the situation linked to Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman continues to score decisive goals in the biggest games, but he is now 37 years of age and his contact runs out at the end of the season.

The time has come to start looking at who to pass the baton to, and the current internal solutions do not provide enough guarantees. Luka Jovic is in red hot form, but his deal runs out in June too and further assurances are needed.

As we reported recently, the Rossoneri management are big admirers of Zirkzee. The Dutchman has adapted well to life in Serie A since his arrival, and he has caught the eye of many top clubs, including those in England.

Romano gave an update during his column for CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing and there was a note at the end about the rumours linking Manchester United and Milan with Zirkzee.

“We also need to wait for Manchester United to decide on their new director before there will be more certainty on transfer targets, despite new rumours about some big names,” he said.

“Joao Neves of Benfica is always linked because he’s being scouted but nothing concrete is taking place now. He’s a top talent and so links are not surprising, but there’s nothing else going on because we need to see what will be the United strategy under their new director.

“The same is true for Joshua Zirkzee – it’s just normal scouting activity, but too early to know what United will decide to do here. Also, AC Milan have a concrete interest in Zirkzee for sure but the strategy for the summer will be made in the next months, not now.”
