Tuttosport: Gabbia back in Italy soon – the two targets most likely to join him

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are close to being able to welcome a much-needed reinforcement for their defensive department as Matteo Gabbia is due back in Italy soon, according to a report.

As has been reported for several days now and as Tuttosport (via MilanNews) write this morning, Matteo Gabbia will return to Milan starting in January. The Rossoneri will end the loan agreement with Villarreal early, where he played the first half of the season.

The reasons are very simple: Milan find themselves in a great defensive emergency, with the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu all not returning before February or March.

Gabbia is an easy and cost-free solution, to which the Rossoneri will also add another name to replenish a department that is now depleted. The Italian defender will be in Milan in the next few hours, the paper states.

Who might that other addition be? The name of Clement Lenglet is considered among the most appealing options because he is not playing much at Aston Villa, however his loan from Barcelona must be ended early and then Barca in turn need to cover part of his salary.

Therefore the negotiations would not be quick and the management are aware that reinforcements are needed immediately. In this sense, the names of Thilo Kehrer (West Ham) and Nordi Mukiele (PSG) are hotter, especially if their respective clubs open up to loans.

  1. Nothing wrong with Gabbia. His biggest challenge is winning over the gaffer. Under Pioli, he’s always done what’s required when required. Welcome back Matteo..💪

  2. Chelsea’s $1B bench includes Malang Sarr, Trevor Chalobah and Wesley Fofana, all superior to our current defensive options and all of whom have not played a single minute in the league.

I’m guessing that we could get one (or two) of them on loan until the Summer.
