Sky: How Milan are expected to line up against Genoa with key players missing

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Genoa, a report has emerged about how AC Milan are expected to lineup, with several key players missing due to injury.

As reported earlier, Milan are struggling with a few injuries, and it was confirmed that Mike Maignan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will not feature in the game this weekend. However, Luka Jovic and Pierre Kalulu could return.

Therefore, a few changes are expected from the standard eleven, as Emanuele Baiocchini reported for Sky (via MilanNews). Marco Sportiello will start once again, and this afternoon, he has spoken about the Rossoneri’s season whilst replying to the Curva Sud’s protest statement.

In the defence, Davide Calabria is still suspended, but Theo Hernandez will return to the starting side, so, Alessandro Florenzi will move to right-back. Centrally, it will be Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia, but Pierre Kalulu could feature.

The midfield pivot is still to be decided, with Yacine Adli, Ismael Bennacer and Tijjani Reijnders all offering arguments as to why they should start. However, there are no doubts about the attacking lineup.

Samuel Chukwueze will start on the right-hand side, meaning Christian Pulisic can, again, have the freedom of the Trequartista, Rafael Leao on the left, Olivier Giroud will lead the line, and Luka Jovic could feature at some point after returning to training.

  1. Okafor must really be hated by Pioli.
Good thing Pioli is gone come end of season. First it was romance with Krunic now it’s Giroud regardless of performance. It’s sickening

    1. It’s appalling that Okafor isn’t starting. CL spot is secured, Giroud’s last games have been terrible. All this does is erode Okafor’s self confidence.

  2. The whole world except Pioli sees that Giroud has already checked out (his mind is in Los Angeles) and is contributing as much as a traffic cone. Pioli the idiot keeps starting him. Unbelievable. How do we win without a striker, when our striker does nothing and is dead weight?

I love Giroud, but allow the man to rest in peace, already! He doesn’t want to risk an injury before his transfer to LA, and he is absolutely no longer invested or interested in performing for Milan. He must be as puzzled as the entire fan base, with the fact that Pioli keeps starting him.

Is there someone as stubborn as Pioli, and as incapable of learning from his own mistakes as PIoli? What an imbecile.

  3. Everyone getting upset about the lineup, meanwhile in a few hours they are going to put out another article with a completely different projected starting 11. Just like this one is totally different than the one they put out yesterday.
Having said that, it would be ridiculous to start Giroud again. He’s already checked out, and we should really see what Okafor can do up top.

    1. I had that thought too.
At least this one doesn’t have Bennacer as the CAM. Chuk finally getting a start on right wing.
Just swap Giroud for Okafor/Jovic and you’ve got a good line-up.

I assume not including Tomori is a typo.
He should be back from suspension
