TMW: Two names stand out as Milan look for a Kessie-esque midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in the market for a new central midfielder ahead of the summer window and a journalist has claimed that there are two names that stand out on the list of targets.

A striker is not the only signing that Milan will make when the transfer window reopens, and TMW’s Niccolò Ceccarini (via Radio Rossonera) spoke of two names in midfield who have attracted the interest of the management in recent weeks.

According to what the journalist reported, Milan’s transfer market spotlight ‘has turned on Youssouf Fofana of Monaco’, a player who has characteristics that are similar to Franck Kessie’s.

Kessie departed Milan on a free transfer after the Scudetto win in 2022, and the feeling is that he was never properly replaced given that there is not a natural defensive midfielder in the squad at present, one who combines physicality with quality.

Ceccarini adds that Renato Veiga is also on the Rossoneri’s wish list, a 20-year-old who currently plays for Basel and has been repeatedly linked over the past few days, with his father even confirming the interest.

Regardless of the name, it seems certain that a deeper-lying player will arrive before the start of next season to give balance to the department.

  1. Khéphren Thuram is a good option too. Berge maybe too. As for Renato Veiga he is young and cheap, maybe as a back up. Teraciano can play DM too. Pioli should try him out there in the next games.

  2. Realistically speaking what are the chances of getting Fofana if arsenal is interested as well?

And i don’t think he is a similar profile to Kessie anyway. Musah was supposedly a similar profile and is totally different from Kessie.

    1. Musah is an underdeveloped Kessie with better footwork but lacking that final pass precision.

I am 100% sure he can become an upgrade to Kessie with time to develop and a “freedom” to make mistakes and learn.

  3. “Milan look for a Kessie-esque midfielder”

Two years too late. In fact, after we missed Kessie badly last season, they go and sell another midfielder who was closest to Kessie. They went on to spend 60 millions on midfield and still not properly replacing any of them👏

    1. I hope you are talking about Krunic as they player that they sold that was the closest to Kessie because Tonali is a box to box midfielder.
In double pivot Tonali looked just as bad as the players they signed last summer, so he was properly replaced.
Tonali only looked good at Milan for 1 season and that was when he had Kessie next to him to hold his hand.
Last season midfield was worst than this seasons.

      1. Right now we’re having one of the worst seasons in history for goals conceded. Not solely because of our defence but because of our midfield and lack of cover from it.

        1. Oh yeah worst season in history for goals conceded? What an interesting perspective given all the defensive and tactical errors that directly lead to goals. Milan’s goal difference is +25, there are 12 teams who’ve given up more goals and only one who’s scored more. Our leaky defense is mostly the result of bad marking and positioning. Krunic and Tonali couldn’t mark a piece of paper with a pen, Musha, Theo and at times Thiaw have been the worst culprits in this but pretty regularly Pioli has his midfield push so far up there’s a huge gap in front of the CBs. During the scudetto season Calabria would occupy that space but now Pioli has him push up wide on the wing which (given his lack of pace) leaves him woefully behind the counter. I think with a more conscious approach and a fast RB Milan would be less leaky.

          1. A report this season after 31 games:

“This season Milan have conceded 39 goals in 31 games played, amassing 11 clean sheets, while last year after 32 games the goals conceded stood at 39 with one more clean sheet.”

And this were only Serie A games counted, without Coppa, CL or EL.

Seems Tonali and Krunic can mark better than our 60 million leakfield.

      2. “Tonali looked just as bad as the players they signed last summer, so he was properly replaced.”

        “Properly replaced” by who exactly???

And now our mid is good this season with all the new signings???? Ha!

Ya ya ya, I get it all Redbird signings were amazing – so amazing that it was all previous managements fault we stunk. But it’s all better now right? Just disregard all of the goals we have let in this season – that’s ONLY the D’s fault right?? LOL

        😂😂😂😂😂

        1. To be honestly all of last season signing are failure. Activate buy option for old player like junior & florenzi , signing free transfer origi ( give him 4m euro nett ) , buy cash CDK & thiaw. This season ACM failed because purely coach tactic , pioli tactic already easy to read by other serie A coach like simone, gasperini ,derossi. Even if pioli squad go to final UEL , he cannot defeat gasperini tactic ( this season ACM never win vs atalanta ) . This season squad more better than last season squad, ACM solving RW solution with pulisic & chukwu ( far better than junior & salad last season) also depth for leao & giroud in okafor & jovic ( both become super sub) . Without tonali sale , ACM cannot have tijani and solving RW solution buying pulisic & chukwu. Tonali are banned till august, do you want to see krunic – bennacer or adili – pobega as double pivot this season while the RW are dead side with junior + salad??? Tonali sacrifice are needed to make leap for this club, yes we need DMF but it is not tonali

  4. Milan lacking amrabat type of player someone can defend can attack can hold the ball can pass can dictate if milan bring amrabat and one good cf we can compete with anyone in serie a

  5. There’s onana from Everton
    Gomes from wolves
    Palinha from Fulham
    Danilo Pereira from psg
    Zakaria from Monaco
    Thomas partey from arsenal
We can get any of them with a relatively good price

    1. Joao Palhinha and Amadou Onana are top-quality and would certainly transform Milan’s mildfield, but they are worth around 60-70 mln. As for Partey and Pereira, they are far from what Milan need.

      1. Buddy why are u on this site? Obviously it’s to get attention.

Nobody goes on an opposing fans forum and constantly posts like you do. You just want attention. Can you not get it from your own Shinter fans? Or do they dislike you too??

You’re a troll pal. You claim to be concerned with what Milan does but it’s all BS – you’re secretly smiling each time.

Go on your own site and stop being an attention whore

        1. It’s just my honest opinion nothing much ….if the post somehow irritates you just leave it nobody is forcing you to read ….if you’ve got no content or opinion just find sth else to do

  6. Sell bennacer and use the money for fofana. If still insist signing renato veiga then must sell or use pobega as bargain chip for bungiorno . With this ACM midfield next season are adili, tijani,RLC,fofana, renato, terraciano
