AC Milan could be set for further alterations to the managerial structure within the club ahead of next season.

As Calciomercato.com write, Milan have felt the lack of a figure capable of acting with authority and vision in the role of sporting director for years. With the arrival of Igli Tare, the Rossoneri have director who knows his way around Italian football and is not afraid to make unpopular but strategic decisions.
His approach, so far, has been clear: managing the club’s financial and technical assets with a 360° vision, capitalising on transfers and reinvesting intelligently. The outgoing market has undoubtedly been brilliant, allowing Milan to financially compensate for the loss in Champions League revenues.
Frictions confirmed
The incoming operations however were a different story, leading to friction between the Albanian sporting director and the CEO Giorgio Furlani.
The length of the negotiations for Ardon Jashari and the sum spent to acquire him from Club Brugge (almost €40m with bonuses), as well as the sums spent on Christopher Nkunku and Pervis Estupinan, were not particularly appreciated by Furlani.
Any kind of revolution in the management has been denied for now, and this was pretty much confirmed by the statement issued on January 30th following the completion of the refinancing transaction with Comvest.
“Elliott Managing Partner Gordon Singer and Associate Portfolio Manager Dominic Mitchell will leave the AC Milan Board of Directors. No further changes have been made to the Board or management, ensuring continuity of governance and operational management,” it said.
Giorgio Furlani, whose contract was renewed until 2028, will remain in office as CEO and will be supported by Massimo Calvelli, former CEO of the ATP and a member of Milan’s board of directors since November 2025.
It will not be a dual CEO structure, but rather a division of areas and responsibilities, with Calvelli representing a key liaison between the club and the ownership.
Tare and Allegri’s fate
Igli Tare’s future will be assessed at the end of the season, given the differences he has had with some of the management in recent months. The Jean-Philippe Mateta deal (which subsequently fell through), spearheaded by Giorgio Furlani, exemplifies the disconnect that emerged.
Two factors favor the former Lazio director: the results so far on the pitch and his excellent relationship with Allegri. Allegri is very close to the team and all the management too, and he remains determined to guide Milan back to where they belond.
However, some differences of opinion regarding the decisions made during the mercato, both in July/August and last January, when Allegri’s recommendations regarding certain roles or player profiles were apparently not given due consideration.
He sees the balance between the more administrative side of the club, headed by Furlani, and the technical side, officially delegated to Tare, as being ‘complicated’. The coach is focused on a top four finish, then he will meet with the management at the end of the campaign.
The request will be for a more convinced sharing of ideas on the players to sign and build around, and those who can be sacrificed, but more generally to make his own opinion more valid on the necessary reinforcements.
