In the past few weeks, there have been several questions about Milan and their next few games. After all, what should’ve been a tap-in for a spot in Europe’s premier competition has become anything but that.
Indeed, most thought that the Rossoneri had left the Champions League race and stayed well clear of entering the other. Instead, though, their standards have dropped and so have they, with a place in next year’s competition far from being guaranteed.
The loss to a Sassuolo side – who were good and should not be discredited – has caused panic on the streets of Lombardy, whilst their neighbours celebrated into the night after lifting their second Scudetto in three seasons.
Allegri’s future at risk
When Massimiliano Allegri was hired, it seemed like it would be a multi-year project; qualify for the Champions League again and then raise the bar. However, that first goal may not be achieved and the project could end.
Indeed, Calciomercato.com reports that without a place in sext season’s competition, Allegri’s future at the club would be at risk. The parties could decide to walk away from each other, due to the pre-agreed goals not being met and he may not be the only one to do so.
For Allegri, it is simply a results-based business; if he does not achieve them after promises from the management, he may not hesitate to walk away.
The final few weeks of the season, then, are bigger than just next season. It could be a multi-year issue if Allegri and his side do not finish in the top four…
