Allegri positive after Arsenal test but insists Milan ‘absolutely need to improve’

AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri is taking the positives from the preseason game against Arsenal, despite the 1-0 loss.

Given that Milan were playing their first proper friendly and given that the Premier League season begins before the Serie A campaign does, it was always likely that Arsenal would have the upper hand in Singapore.

Sure enough, they were dominant at the National Stadium and emerged the victors, with Bukayo Saka getting the only goal early in the second half. Milan struggled to get much joy going forward, while Lorenzo Torriani kept the deficit to just one goal late on in a useful outing.

Allegri reflects on Arsenal run-out

Allegri spoke at a press conference that took place after the full-time whistle to assess the game that kicked off the Asia-Pacific tour, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

How did you find the game?

“It was a good training session against one of the strongest teams in Europe. I’m happy with what I saw, even though we’re only 15 days into preparation: we’ll have time to learn and improve.”

Was there a change in system?

“I saw a good willingness to work from the lads, and we raised the level of sacrifice when not in possession. Despite this, we had some chances in the open field that we could have capitalised on better. We absolutely need to improve, but I’m happy with what we did.”

Estupinan is currently undergoing a medical…

“He’s a top player, but Bartesaghi also played a good match today against a champion of Saka’s caliber.”

A comment on Leao?

“He played a great match, like all the other players. I’m pleased with him. When we lose, even in a friendly, I’m never completely happy, but now it’s important to prepare well for the rest of the season.

“And it’s important to consider that we were up against one of the strongest teams in Europe. For sixty minutes, we played on par with them. That’s no small feat.”

  1. Oh no lol, it’s the “we played well for 60 minutes” line. I realize it’s pre-season and 2nd half was all subs and basically a training match but just seeing those words in that order is triggering lol. If we play like that in Serie A, Allegri won’t be so chill.

    1. Thank God it’s not serie A, last preseason we beat any team that came our way, but when the season starts it was a different game entirely I guess u knew what happened…like Alegri rightly said we played a great team n was on par with them for sixty minutes. It wasn’t easy.

  2. Ooh here we go again. Its the same phrases that we are listening for the past 2 years. Pioli- Foncseca- Conceicao- Allegri. We need to approve, good approach and so on. Yes, they were holding ok, but just remember last year. Preseason in USA- wins against Barca, Real, City. And how it ended?
All i saw was a team incapable of making any chance. Apart from Pulisic we need 10 starters. This team is nowhere near playing or even capable of playing football that even qualifies for EL.

I am eagerly waiting for replys cause i can already tell some of you will comment on this that im stupid or just hater. All i want is to see milan play good football, that brings results. This group wont achieve that Im afraid

    1. Better not to win in preseason.
Its Alegri, defense comes first. I would not be surprised if he only play defense before match day one.

    2. It’s advisable to all Haters,to keep quiet and keep fingers crossed or stop supporting Ac milan. The best advice for all haters. Some of yiu never played ball or Managed football club.

  3. Leao should be sold. It’s still very early. That dude will never change. He will sit or possibly be demoted to play reserves in a top tier team. This madness needs to stop.
