Begovic: “It is an honour to be at Milan”; Donnarumma “among the strongest in the world”

New signing Asmir Begovic has described it as an ‘honour’ to have completed a move to AC Milan as he was presented to the media at Casa Milan.

The Bosnia international was officially confirmed as a new Milan player on Monday, arriving to be the new deputy to Gianluigi Donnarumma despite Antonio Donnarumma’s heroics on Wednesday night.

Gigio’s back-up was Pepe Reina, but minutes prior to the announcement of Begovic’s arrival the Rossoneri confirmed that the Spaniard has departed for Aston Villa on a six-month loan deal.

The Bournemouth man has joined on a six-month loan deal with no option to buy, and at 32 he will add valuable experience to the group.

Begovic was officially unveiled earlier in the week, but on Thursday he faced the media at Casa Milan, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“It is an honour for me to be here, it is an honour to be part of a club so full of history. The first few days here have been fantastic, I want to bring Milan to the top. I’m here to help the team and do my best,” he said.

“I have only heard positive things about Italian football. I have friends playing here. The fans are as warm as in England, so I don’t expect big differences.

“San Siro is a special stadium. It is an honour to be able to play it.”

As mentioned, Begovic is only here until the end of the season as it stands.

“For now this is the situation, in six months we will evaluate. There were some things that didn’t work outside of Bournemouth but I’m happy to be here,” he said.

Begovic also discussed two members of the current squad, namely Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“Zlatan is a leader and a winner. He always expects the maximum from himself and from everyone else, having it here is important.

“Donnarumma is among the best, he gave me a nice welcome. He is among the strongest in the world.”
